Why Choose Juicing for Gut Health?

Juicing, in general, provides a plethora of health-supporting benefits. Here are just a few (1):

  • Promote Restoration and Healing
  • Fight Inflammation
  • Boost Immunity
  • Support a Variety of Health Goals
Juicing for gut health is an easy and delicious way to help heal your digestive system.

All of those are great reasons to juice, and when talking about the gut, juice is shown to do the following (1, 2):

  • Promote beneficial microbiota all along the digestive tract.
  • Give the digestive system a break, allowing it to focus on healing.
  • Deliver gut-healthy nutrients in a concentrated form that’s easily absorbed.

Green Juice Benefits

As you can see, drinking fresh juice regularly may really help your gut get back on track. The benefits of green juices are tied to all those listed above and provide key ingredients that are shown to support gut health. Here’s more about the ingredients in this recipe and how they may help:

Pineapple contains bromelain, an enzyme that helps break down food, particularly protein (3). This can reduce gas, constipation, and bloating while allowing our body to focus on healing. Bromelain has also been shown to have antibacterial properties that may prevent harmful bacteria growth like E. coli and reduce digestive tract inflammation (4). It has also been shown to inhibit the growth of colorectal cancer cells (5).

Green juice benefits are many, and this recipe focuses on the gut healthy components of bromelain, vitamin C, chlorophyll, vitamin K and magnesium.

Pineapple is also an excellent source of vitamin C, which is shown to improve the gut biome (6) and has a positive effect on intestinal inflammation (7).

Kale and parsley are loaded with sulfoquinovose, a sulfur-containing sugar that is incredibly advantageous to beneficial gut bacteria (8). Both are rich in chlorophyll, vitamins K and C, and the mineral magnesium. These vitamins and minerals are also great for the gut (9, 10, 11)!
