Fresh air and sunshine have been keys to rejuvenating my health. Now that I’m here in Florida, I get plenty of both. With the increase in sun exposure, I’ve investigated how to prevent sunburn naturally. One of the ways I keep my skin protected is with juice. Not only is the recipe below great for your skin, but it’s also super hydrating and energizing…plus delicious!!!
The Juice: Skin Saviour
Makes 40 fl oz
10 Cups Watermelon (seeded if available)
1 6oz Red Raspberries
Split and cube the watermelon; don’t deseed.
Destem red raspberries.
Peel the lime (optional).
Run all ingredients through your juicer and enjoy!
The Details: Enjoy Sunshine Safely
Keeping a dietary intake high in antioxidants helps your skin tolerate the sun, as well as allows you to assimilate Vitamin D our bodies synthesize through sun exposure. Watermelon juice is fantastic for this!
It’s high in lycopene which has been shown to help prevent sunburn and stave off other skin issues. While tomatoes are lauded as the lycopene champions, watermelons contain far more. Lycopene protects the skin by absorbing both UVA and UVB radiation. An occasional glass won’t do the trick; rather you’ll need a regular diet of watermelon (not too tricky) to allow your system the time to build up its lycopene stores to serve as a natural sunscreen.
As always, use caution with the sun. Don’t overexpose yourself, especially if you’re not accustomed to spending time in the sun. Always better to under-expose than over!
