Fresh air and sunshine have been keys to rejuvenating my health. Now that I’m here in Florida, I get plenty of both. With the increase in sun exposure, I’ve investigated how to prevent sunburn naturally. One of the ways I keep my skin protected is with juice. Not only is the recipe below great for your skin, but it’s also super hydrating and energizing…plus delicious!!!

Learn how to prevent sunburn naturally with fresh juice!

Watermelon Juice Benefits for Skin

Keeping a dietary intake high in antioxidants helps your skin tolerate the sun so it can synthesize vitamin D through sun exposure, a key nutrient for maintaining numerous bodily functions (1). Watermelon, red raspberries, and limes are all packed with antioxidants so are fantastic for this (2, 3, 4).

Watermelon is also high in lycopene which has been shown to help prevent sunburn and stave off other skin issues (5, 6). While tomatoes are lauded as the lycopene champions, watermelons contain 40% more than tomatoes (7).

Watermelon juice benefits for skin are a combination of its antioxidant content for vitamin D synthesis and lycopene for natural sun protection.

Lycopene protects the skin by absorbing both UVA and UVB radiation (8). An occasional glass won’t do the trick; rather you’ll need a regular diet of watermelon (not too tricky) to allow your system the time to build up its lycopene stores to serve as a natural sunscreen.

Lycopene is also known to decrease the risk of heart disease, cancer, and age-related eye issues (9). As always, use caution with the sun. Don’t overexpose yourself, especially if you’re not accustomed to spending time in the sun. It’s always better to under-expose than over!

This juicer easily pays for itself over time both in produce cost savings and improved health!

What’s also great about this juicer machine is its ability to make so much more than incredible juice: smoothies, nice cream, sorbets, nut milk, seed and nut butter, baby food, cauliflower rice, milled grains, and even grinds coffee.

Constructed of high-gauge stainless steel, it’s built to last a lifetime and is backed by an astounding 12-year warranty. The PURE Juicer is truly at the top of the industry, and I unquestionably recommend it to anyone looking to invest in their long-term health.

  • Author: JuiceFeaster
  • Total Time: 10 minutes
  • Yield: 40 fl oz 1x

Description

Help protect your skin from the sun naturally with this delicious juice!

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 10 C Watermelon (seeded preferred)
  • 6 oz Red Raspberries
  • 1 Lime

Instructions

  1. Remove the watermelon rind (optional) and chop.
  2. Destem the red raspberries.
  3. Peel the lime (optional).
  4. Run all ingredients through your juicer and enjoy!

Notes

I really like seeded watermelon, both for juicing and eating. Why? I’ve often found that they simply taste better, being more ripe than their seedless counterparts. Also, you typically get more watermelon for the money when it comes to the seeded variety.

Specifically for juicing, I leave the seeds in so they’ll also get juiced. This adds a small amount of seed oil which contains additional nutritional benefits and can give the resulting juice a smoother texture.

When it comes to peeling citrus, like limes, if there’s only one or two small pieces in a recipe, I don’t typically peel them. Again, I like getting the added benefits from the peel, and a little citrus peel won’t make the juice too bitter. Experiment for yourself to see what you like best!
