Many of you are active, so I often get asked what fruits or veggies are best when trying to hydrate naturally. Most of all, I get asked, “Is watermelon good for hydration?”. The short answer is “Heck Yeah!”, but check out my recipe and article below to get more of the details as to why watermelon is so awesome for hydration.

What’s In This Article?

Is watermelon good for hydration? You bet it is! Chocked full of electrolytes, minerals that help you rehydrate, makes this fruit one of the best!

Dangers of Dehydration

Did you know that if you’re thirsty, you’re dehydrated? Even mild dehydration negatively affects us, causing us to feel tired. Chronic dehydration, which affects an estimated 75% of the population, can lead to kidney disease, constipation, and muscle damage. Severe dehydration is nothing to mess around with, causing brain swelling, shock, kidney failure, coma, and even death.

Importance of Electrolytes

Electrolytes are the minerals responsible for fluid balance in the body; potassium, sodium, calcium, and magnesium, just to name a few. Plain water is definitely good for you, but typically lacking in sufficient electrolytes to ensure you have enough.

The importance of electrolytes for your health and hydration can't be understated. One great way of getting more is with watermelon juice! This is one of the great hydrating drinks besides water.

That’s where watermelon juice comes in! Made up of over 90% water, which we know is great for basic hydration (1), this fruit also has magnesium, potassium, calcium, and phosphorus, all of which are important electrolytes.

For this recipe, I also add a touch of salt, which brings sodium, another key electrolyte, to the mix. Himalayan pink salt also has over 80 trace minerals and other elements (2), further adding to the hydrating power of this juice.

The dangers of dehydration are serious, and juicing is a great way to help. Adding a touch of Himalayan sea salt to your juice recipe is a great way to bolster its hydrating power.

Lime juice also adds potassium, magnesium, and calcium. It also adds a delicious zing to this juice which I love!

Hydration Station

  • Author: JuiceFeaster
  • Total Time: 10 minutes
  • Yield: 32 fl oz 1x

Description

Looking to hydrate naturally? You gotta try watermelon juice! It’s a fantastic way to balance your electrolytes and keep your cells happy!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 Medium Watermelon (12 C)
  • 2 Limes
  • 1/8 tsp Himalayan Pink Salt

Instructions

  • Remove the rind from the watermelon (optional).
  • Peel the limes (optional).
  • Run through your juicer, add the salt, and enjoy!

Notes

I like using seeded watermelons when I can get them. They’re typically sweeter and give you more juice for your money. Also, when juicing them, I like to remove the rind. You don’t have to, but juicing them dilutes the natural sweetness in the juice a bit. Either way is totally fine.
