Leading Causes of Erectile Dysfunction

Erectile dysfunction, the inability to attain and maintain an erection firm enough for intercourse, is a symptom of a range of underlying physical and mental health conditions. It’s one way the body is letting you know there’s something wrong and that you need to pay attention.

Here are some of the leading causes of erectile dysfunction (1):

  • Hypertension (High Blood Pressure)
  • High Cholesterol
  • Obesity
  • Atherosclerosis
  • Stress
  • Heart Disease
  • Diabetes
  • Depression & Anxiety
  • Substance Abuse

Why Beet Juice for ED?

Beet juice tackles the issue thanks to its high nitrate levels and their effect on high blood pressure. Hypertension causes artery walls to harden and narrow, reducing blood flow and inhibiting erection.

Beet juice for ed is a great option thanks to its positive effect on high blood pressure, one of the leading causes of erectile dysfunction.

The body converts those nitrates into nitric oxide, a compound known to widen and relax blood vessels. This process allows for increased unrestricted blood flow in the corpus cavernosum (the blood vessel-rich tissue responsible for maintaining an erection) (2). The result is a lowering of blood pressure which may result in lessened ED symptoms.

Watermelon: The Natural Source of Citrulline

Watermelon may also help combat ED through its high amount of L-citrulline. This nonessential amino acid also promotes blood vessel dilation via the nitric oxide system, resulting in decreased blood pressure and improved blood flow (3).

One of the best juices for ed is watermelon thanks it being a natural source of citrulline, which helps decrease blood pressure and improve blood flow.

Celery juice, too, has naturally occurring nitrates that can promote heart health and help lower blood pressure. Also present is apigenin, a flavonoid and protein inhibitor thought to boost testosterone production in the testes (4).

Juice recipe for erectile dysfunction

It’s Gettin’ Hot In Here!

  • Author: JuiceFeaster
  • Total Time: 10 minutes
  • Yield: 42 fl oz 1x

Description

One of the top reasons for erectile dysfunction is poor circulation. This juice brings the triple-threat of beets, watermelon, and celery to get your blood pumping better!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 Small Watermelon (6 Cups)
  • 2 Large Beets
  • 5 Stalks Celery
  • 1/2 Lemon

Instructions

  • De-rind (optional) and cut up the watermelon.
  • Scrub and chop the beets.
  • Scrub and chop the celery.
  • Peel the lemon (optional).
  • Run all ingredients through your juicer and enjoy!

Notes

I typically remove the rind off watermelon before juicing. There’s nothing wrong with juicing the rind, but depending on how thick it is including it will dilute the juice and make it less sweet. It’s all about personal preference so try it both ways and see which you like best.
