Gallstone Causes and Symptoms

Gallstones are rather common among Americans, affecting nearly 25 million people (1). These hardened bile deposits are thought to be caused by a couple of things, primarily related to diet and lifestyle. This digestive fluid is produced in the liver and then stored in the gallbladder, which then deposits it into the small intestines during digestion.

While doctors aren’t completely sure, they think gallstone causes are (2):

  • Elevated Bile Cholesterol Levels – when the liver discharges more cholesterol than the bile can dissolve

  • Incomplete Gallbladder Emptying – results in concentrated bile

Gallstones can develop in anyone, including kids, but is more common in those over 40. Slow growing, they can take up to 20 years to develop to a size that causes bile duct obstruction (3). Help your body break up painful gallstones and keep your gallbladder happy with this delicious juice!

  • 3 Cucumbers
  • 2 Apples
  • 1 Handful of Mint
  • 1 Lime

  1. Rinse the cucumbers (peel only if waxed).
  2. Rinse the apples (coring optional).
  3. Rinse the mint and pat dry.
  4. Peel lime (optional)
  5. Run the ingredients through your juicer and enjoy!!!

I like using hothouse/English cucumbers because they’ve not been waxed, so can juice the peel. If you can get your hands on locally grown, unwaxed varieties of any sort definitely go with those.
