Gallstones are quite common, with an estimated 25 million Americans affected. The vast majority of those stones are made up of cholesterol, which happens when your liver excretes more than your bile can handle. This is typically a result of a high-fat diet. Help your body help itself by juicing for gallstones. This not only increases your fresh fruit and veggie intake, but it also supplies important vitamins and minerals associated with a healthy gallbladder.

Gallstone Causes and Symptoms
Gallstones are rather common among Americans, affecting nearly 25 million people (1). These hardened bile deposits are thought to be caused by a couple of things, primarily related to diet and lifestyle. This digestive fluid is produced in the liver and then stored in the gallbladder, which then deposits it into the small intestines during digestion.

While doctors aren’t completely sure, they think gallstone causes are (2):
- Elevated Bile Cholesterol Levels – when the liver discharges more cholesterol than the bile can dissolve
- Elevated Bilirubin Levels – bilirubin is produced when the body breaks down red blood cells, and an excess can result from conditions like liver cirrhosis
- Incomplete Gallbladder Emptying – results in concentrated bile
Gallstone Risk Factors
Gallstones can develop in anyone, including kids, but is more common in those over 40. Slow growing, they can take up to 20 years to develop to a size that causes bile duct obstruction (3). Gallstone risk factors are directly linked to a person’s diet and lifestyle, with some less common ones being certain preexisting medical conditions and genetic background.

- High Triglycerides or Low HDL Cholesterol
- Liver Cirrhosis
- Metabolic Syndrome
- Being of Mexican or Native American Decent
- Obesity or Rapid Weight Loss
- Diabetes and Insulin Resistance
- Being Female Assigned at Birth
- Conditions where red blood cells are broken down continuously, like Sickle Cell Anemia
How to Get Rid of Gallstones Naturally
If you’re looking to get rid of gallstones naturally, look to the power of juice to help you out! Research suggests that fresh fruits and vegetables are great for your gallbladder (3). Fresh juice takes their nutrients and concentrates them in a super-hydrating form that can help you clear out those stones!

Mint contains menthol, a termine that is thought to help dissolve gallstones by increasing bile acid while reducing cholesterol levels in the bile.
Cucumbers and apples are an excellent source of activated (nutrient-rich) water that helps flush the gallbladder, keeping bile from building up.

Limes contain vitamin C which is thought to help break up gallstones by stimulating the conversion of cholesterol to bile acids.
