Why is Grape Juice Good for You?
Grapes contain powerful antioxidants that help protect the body from free radicals. These harmful substances can cause damage to cells, leading to cancer, heart disease, and other issues (1). One of those is vitamin C (also known as Ascorbic Acid) which is essential for a fully functional immune system (2) and healthy skin (3).
Another important antioxidant purple grapes have in spades is resveratrol. This well-studied compound is known to reduce inflammation and help protect against many chronic diseases, like cancer, diabetes, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases, and heart disease (4). The regulation of inflammation is tied to reducing the development of these diseases, as well as ameliorating the effects of aging (5).

Purple grape juice is thought to promote cardiovascular health by reducing blood clotting risk (6), lowering cholesterol levels (7), and maintaining healthy blood pressure. One way blood pressure is regulated is thanks to its potassium content. This mineral is vital to reducing blood pressure by removing excess sodium and relaxing blood vessel walls (8).
Another key component of purple grape juice is manganese. This mineral is vital for the formation of bone as well as brain neurotransmitter production (9). So enjoying a fresh cup of purple grape juice is great for your body, head to toe!

The Good Grape
- Total Time: 10 minutes
- Yield: 32 fl oz 1x
Description
Grapes are great for you, and their fresh juice is just as awesome! Purple ones rank near the top thanks to their wealth of health-boosting properties. Make your own and see how tasty good health can be!
Ingredients
- 6 c Purple Grapes
- 1 Lemon or Lime
Instructions
- Wash and destem the grapes.
- Peel the lemon or lime (optional).
- Run the ingredients through your juicer and enjoy!!!
Notes
The darker the skin pigment on the grapes you juice should yield the higher concentrations of many of the components listed in this article. And if they have seeds, even better! Concord grapes are a good example.
I like to soak my grapes and other produce that I don’t peel in a solution of baking soda and water (1 tsp to 2 c cold water). I do this for 10 minutes, both to dislodge any soil and help remove any pesticide or herbicide residue that may be present.Â
